Riverside sent a
local teacher, Mr. Patrick
Boe, to teach at Jiangmen
Middle School #2. For details,

JULY
14, 1999
The 30-voice
award-winning Children's
Choir from Jiangmen, China
visited Riverside to perform
at the Mission Inn Music
Room. This delightful choir
filled the room with sounds
of folk songs from several
regions of China, as well
as American and European
classical choral works.
The choir's visit included
tours of Riverside Community
College and Ramona High
School, lunch and a pool
party, rehearsal, and a
lovely evening performance,
at which the Ramona High
School Jazz Ensemble welcomed
the Children's Choir with
a lively production. Families
of Ramona Dynasty Marching
Band, Ramona High School
Madrigals and St. Michael's
Church Choir opened their
homes to the choir members,
who were ages 10-15, for
homestays.
JULY
20 AND 21, 1999
Jiangmen
sent
an eight-person delegation
to Riverside for meetings
with businesses, community
and city leaders. The officials
participated in a round
table discussion with Riverside
City departments, met with
Royal Citrus, 220 Labs,
and Rainbird International/Yardney
Water Management Systems,
and toured the University
of California Riverside,
Riverside County Courthouse,
and Riverside Municipal
Museum. Appointments were
fruitful. Possible projects
have been initiated in
athletics, music, literature,
museum artifacts, horticulture
education and trade. Members
of the International Relations
Council and World Affairs
Council of Inland Southern
California attended a banquet
for the visitors.
JANUARY
17-22, 2000
Jiangmen City
Education Bureau sent
a 10-member delegation
of school principals, led
by Deputy Director of the
Education Bureau, Mr. Qin
Yuohung. The group toured
schools and met with educators
at Riverside Unified School
District, Riverside County
Office of Education, Riverside
Community College and University
of California, Riverside.
They met with the Mayor
to discuss furthering education
links between schools in
the two regions. They also
were guests at a banquet
given by the Inland Chinese
Association.
JANUARY
27-FEBRUARY 7, 2000
Riverside
sent
a
delegation of 12, led by
Mayor Ronald Loveridge,
to Jiangmen. An extensive
schedule of appointments
was made, with hosts Party
Secretary Zhong, Mayor
Jiang, Foreign Affairs
Director Chen, Education
Director Tan, and Business
Director Deng, among others.
Business arrangements were
discussed with Best Buy
Banner and a blanket company,
an information company,
and North High and Number
1 Middle School continued
work on cooperation on
programs. Possibilities
for teachers of English
going to Jiangmen were
also discussed. A high
point was the dedication
of the Riverside - Jiangmen
Friendship Garden in East
Lake Park, with the planting
of nine Pat Nixon rosebushes.
OCTOBER
17-28, 2000
A 25-member
delegation of
John W. North High School
led by Principal Dale Kinnear
visited Jiangmen # 1 Middle
School, attended classes
and participated in the
school’s 70th anniversary
celebration. The trip also
included an excursion to
Hong Kong and Beijing to
experience the Great Wall,
the Forbidden Palace, and
Tianmen Square.
APRIL
20-24, 2001
A 6-member
Jiangmen
City Goodwill
Delegation came to Riverside
and participated in the
Riverside’s annual
Orange Blossom Festival
and the celebration of
our 5th anniversary of
Riverside-Jiangmen friendship.
The delegation, which was
led by the Vice Mayor of
Jiangmen, Madam Xu MeiXin,
consisted of five major
business leaders. They
met with Mayor Loveridge
and other local business
representatives to discuss
furthering business links
between the two cities.
MAY
11-14, 2001
Riverside
Community Health Foundation
helped host a 17-member
health delegation from
Jiangmen. The delegation
visited various health
care facilities in Riverside
City and County, research
laboratories at UCR and
had a wonderful dinner
meeting hosted by the Riverside
County Medical Association.
Organizing the schedule
were Mark Williams and
Carol Stewart of RCHF and
Dolores Green of RCMA.
AUGUST
10-17, 2001
Jiangmen No.1
Middle School sent
a group of 35 students,
all from the school Band,
four teachers, a vice principal
and an assistant principal
to visit its sister school – John
W. North High School in
Riverside. The students
lived with families of
the Blue Star Regiment
Band of North High. They
were treated with homemade
American meals and activities
with host families. They
went to Ontario Mills mall,
Disneyland and the beach.
The Jiangmen and North
High bands gave a joint
